Stop 6: The Devotion House

The building you see today is actually Mr. Edward Devotion’s old home, now preserved by the Brookline Historical Society. Jack began kindergarten at the Edward Devotion School in 1921 with his older brother, Joe Junior, and continued through the end of the third grade. It was originally owned by Frenchman Mr. Edward Devotion, whose home is now managed by the Brookline Historical Society. As Joe Junior and Jack were schoolboys at this very school, another school needed to be built on the same property, as the Brookline neighborhood and population were expanding so rapidly.
